Mask Policy for Recreation Students

November 18, 2020 by WebAdmin Leave a Comment

To our Recreation Student Families

Becca’s Place Gymnastics prides itself on providing a fun, loving and most of all safe environment for your children to learn the sport of gymnastics. We want to do everything we can to be safe and keep our doors open for business in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic.

That is why effective Friday, November 20, all recreation students ages 5 and up will be required to wear masks during practice. A student will be able to take their mask off only when they are performing a skill by themselves on the floor or another apparatus.

We know that this will be an unpopular decision with some of our families, but we took several factors into consideration when making this decision including:

  • The rising case counts in the region, including right here in Hardin County, which has been among the highest in the state as of late.
  • The safety of our students, their families and our staff.
  • Our team kids have followed these masking guidelines successfully since we re-opened and we’ve seen first-hand how it has helped mitigate exposure.
  • Gyms across the country have successfully implemented these same practices for their recreation students.
  • The advice of doctors who have assured us that wearing masks during gymnastics is not dangerous as this is largely a strength vs cardio form of exercise and, for safety reasons, masks will be removed when on an apparatus.

We want to assure you that we have not experienced an outbreak and will be fully transparent about any potential exposures. Ultimately, we want to keep our doors open and provide your children with an opportunity to do something social and physical at a time when there aren’t as many options to do so.

Discipline and perseverance are among the many lessons that gymnastics teaches us and we can apply those teachings to our current circumstances and this new rule. Our thanks for your support and understanding as we navigate this new environment with nothing but the best interest of our students, their families and our staff.

If you have any questions about this new policy, don’t hesitate to contact us.

God Bless

Jenn and Jess

COVID-19 Action Plan

May 19, 2020 by WebAdmin Leave a Comment

As we prepare to reopen the gym, we wanted to share our action plan to keep our gymnasts, their families and our staff safe. We’d ask that you fully support these efforts. Failure to comply could not only jeopardize everyone’s health but also our ability to stay open.

Illness Plan:

To keep our students and employees safe and healthy, we ask that you keep your child home if he/she exhibits any symptoms or is not feeling “well.” If you are ill, or someone in your family is ill, please stay home.

Entrance/Exit:

You will line up outside the front door on/beside markers placed 6 feet apart. Please arrive no more than five minutes prior to your class. Your athlete will be provided with hand sanitizer upon arrival and departure. Once in the building, your athlete will stand on a designated marker until class begins. At the end of class, students will line up at the BACK DOOR for dismissal.

In the event of inclement weather, your gymnast should remain in your vehicle with you and a member of our staff will come to your car and advise you when she can come to the front door.

Bathrooms:

Bathrooms will be monitored to ensure physical distancing. We ask that you use the restroom and wash your hands before coming to the facility.

Common Area/ Lobby:

Currently, we are limiting spectators in the lobby area. Physical distancing will be followed upon entry. Families are limited to one parent per child. All viewing will adhere to physical distancing standards. Chairs will be marked and placed over 6 feet apart. Once the available space is full, we will not be able to allow anyone else in the lobby area.

Hand Sanitizing and Temperature Checks:

Each student/parent will be prompted to use hand sanitizer when entering the facility. Staff will administer on site temperature/health checks. All spectators will be required to wear a mask. Due to the nature of the sport, students are not required to wear a mask, as physical distancing will be enforced at all times.

Cleaning/Water Fountains/Pits

Staff will sanitize all entry and exit surfaces. Pits and water fountains will be closed/covered at this time. All athletes will bring a labeled water bottle for individual use.

Staff Expectations:

Staff will be temperature/health checked upon arrival. They are required to wash or sanitize before and after every class. Masks will be worn by all staff members. Coaches will coach with limited contact, only spotting for safety. All staff members will adhere to the illness policy. Breakrooms are closed at this time.

Equipment Standards:

Staff will sanitize all contact surfaces before and after each class. Students will also wipe down any equipment they use. Sanitizing wipes/disinfectant will be available throughout the facility to wipe down all of the equipment. Athletes will have their own personal equipment that will not be shared (ankle weights, TheraBand, etc). Chalk buckets will not be used at this time.

Scheduling:

All classes will be scheduled to safely accommodate the student to facility ratio. Classes will have staggered class time to make sure families can enter and exit the facility without overlap. Class sizes will be reduced at this time.

Facility Ratio:

We will always uphold the student to square footage ratio.  We will adhere to the rule of no more than four students per 1,000 feet.

Group Spacing:

While attending a class/team, athletes are always required to stay at a minimum of 6 feet apart. Markers will be placed on the floor to establish distancing. Teacher to student ratio will be no more than 1:4 for ages 5 and under and 1:6 for ages 6 and up. We will separate students with their own equipment.

Preschool Age Classes:

All classes for kids ages 5 and under will need to have a parent accompany the child in the class. The parent will help in the physical distancing and will aid in spotting and cleaning of equipment. This will also free up space in the lobby.

Class Structure/Phased Return:

Attendance will be taken at every class to facilitate the potential need for contact tracing. Lesson plans will adhere to physical distancing standards. We will limit the number of students in the facility and a phased return will be implemented.

Becca’s Place Suspends Operations for 2 Weeks

March 16, 2020 by WebAdmin Leave a Comment

Dear BECCA’S Families

The health and well-being of our students, families and staff are always our first priority.  Our leadership team has worked diligently the past 72 hours to make decisions that reflect our commitment to our students and staff.  There has been an enormous amount of information to process and we are doing our very best to make decisions that are in everyone’s best interest.

In light of today’s developments including USAG’s cancellation of all state and regional gymnastics championships, effective immediately, Becca’s Place Gymnastics is suspending ALL classes and practices for the next two weeks. That includes team practice as well as all recreational and pre-school gymnastics classes.

For our recreational and pre-school class families, please note the following temporary changes to our make-up policies:

  • We are removing expiration dates on missed classes for make-ups.
  • We will also allow make ups in classes with room in them, instead of limiting make ups to Open Gym only.
  • You will be able to schedule those up to 5 days prior to the class you are making up in.
  • We know you have selected the class that works best for your schedule.  So, we want to encourage you to remain enrolled in your class and use our make-up option for those missed classes the next 2 weeks.
  • If there comes a time that you choose to withdraw, we will allow those make-ups beyond your withdrawal date so you receive full benefit of your tuition.  This helps support our small business staff and keeps your child in the class they have grown to love and progress in!

We will continue to communicate with you as we have updates.  We can’t wait to have this behind us so we can all resume our normal activities. Thank you for your support and for helping us keep our community safe and healthy.  We appreciate you supporting BECCA’S in this difficult time.

God Bless

Family Wellness Management Plan

March 12, 2020 by WebAdmin Leave a Comment

The safety and wellness of our gymnasts, their families and our staff are our highest priority. While we have always cleaned and disinfected our facility daily, BECCA’s Place is taking the following additional measures to ensure limited exposure to all viruses. We appreciate your help in adhering to these protocols:

  • CONTINUED DAILY SANITATION. We will continue to be diligent, as we have always been, with our cleaning of the facility. We are increasing the frequency of our sanitation efforts with the following SPECIFIC PRECAUTIONS:
    • Bathrooms, door handles and counters will be sanitized hourly.
    • Coaches will sanitize or wash hands between every class.
    • Students will be given hand sanitizer before and after class.
    • All small instructional props will be wiped down twice per evening at minimum.
    • All mats will be sanitized 3-4 nights per week according to our current cleaning schedule.
  • NO WATER FOUNTAIN USE. We have turned off our water fountain. Though we disinfect it several times an evening, we cannot sanitize after each use. Please make sure to send your athlete with his/her own LABELED water bottle.
  • LIMITED SPECTATORS. Currently, we are limiting spectators in the lobby area. If your athlete is over 6, we ask that you come in for drop off and pick up only. For our younger athletes, we ask that you limit spectators to one adult per family. Parent/Tot participants will be allowed ONE adult in the gym for class.
  • LIMITING CONTACT. Our coaches will cheer students on without high fives or hugs. We will not be using stamps at this time.
  • STAY HOME IF ANYONE IN YOUR FAMILY IS SYMPTOMATIC. Please refrain from coming to the gym if anyone in your family is experiencing flu-like symptoms.
  • FEVER FREE FOR 24 HOURS. If your child is ill, please do not send your child to gymnastics. Participants may return when they have been fever and symptom free, without medication, for 24 hours.
  • MAKE-UP POLICY. Athletes will be sent home at the staff’s discretion if displaying symptoms of an illness. As always, all recreational students are offered unlimited makeups. Please use a make-up day if someone in your family is ill. Please contact us to make extra arrangements.

Competition Reminders 2020

January 3, 2020 by WebAdmin Leave a Comment

  • Gymnasts are expected to attend every practice one full week prior to a meet. A doctor’s note will be required if an athlete misses a practice due to illness in order for the coaches to consider allowing them to compete. (This does not apply to athletes with a Friday evening practice and a Saturday morning competition time)
  • Gymnasts are expected to perform all competition routines in their entirety the week prior to the competition. Failure to do so could result in the athlete scratching events.
  • Arrive 15-30 minutes prior to your gymnast’s scheduled open stretch time ready to go.
  • Hair up and secure – compulsory and excel athletes must wear a slicked back bun on top of the head with the provided scrunchie so as to promote a uniform appearance for our teams.
  • Failure to bring grips for bars (level 3 and up) will result in the athlete scratching bars for that meet.
  • Sandals or barefoot for competition floor.
  • Once your athlete is on the floor, please do not distract her.
  • Gymnasts should wear warm-ups (jackets zipped) and jerseys to the awards ceremony.
  • Jerseys are to be worn to all competitions as part of warm up attire.

Competition Season Reminders

November 26, 2018 by WebAdmin Leave a Comment

As we head into meet season, here are a few reminders to help make this season a success!

Arrival/ Dress

  • Gymnasts are expected to arrive 15-30 minutes before Open Stretch time READY TO COMPETE. Gymnasts should wear their competition leotard and warm up. Gymnasts will carry their competition bag. Please send your gymnasts onto the floor barefoot or in flip flops/slides. Boots, tennis shoes, etc. are heavy to pack and take time to get out of and put away. A small snack/water is allowed in the competition bag.
  • Hair should be out of face and secure-no flyaways. Buns, short ponytails/braids close to the head are preferred. Avoid long ponytails/braids. Hair should not be able to touch the ground/beam in a handstand.
  • Remove nail polish and jewelry.
  • Undergarments should match the leotard.

Competition Conduct

  • Please refrain from distracting your gymnast during competition.
  • Parents should not be on the competition floor.
  • Athletes must stay on the competition floor until the last routine is completed for the session.
  • Athletes may not have electronic devices on the floor or at awards.
  • It is never appropriate to contact meet officials. Doing so could result in points being taken away from either your gymnast or our team score.
  • Gymnasts/parents are expected to be respectful of other teams, officials, etc.

Awards

  • Gymnasts should wear warm ups to the awards ceremony. Jackets should be zipped.
  • Gymnasts are expected to stay until the awards ceremony ends.

Other Meet Information

  • Our goal for our athletes at each competition is to improve their individual and all around scores. If your athlete stays on the beam for the first time all season, congratulate her on that victory. Please refrain from focusing on improvements that need to be made immediately following the competition.
  • Please remember that becoming an exceptional competitive gymnast takes time. It is essential that we remember a score is an evaluation of a single routine and may not always be the best representation of a gymnast’s ability. We consider these teachable moments for our athletes. These instances are an opportunity to teach good sportsmanship and composure when things do not go as we would like.

“Change for Change” Angel Tree Fundraiser

October 24, 2018 by WebAdmin Leave a Comment

Starting October 22nd,we will begin our CHANGE for a CHANGE fundraiser. This is a team holiday activity that we have held in previous years to help families in need in our community. This has become one of our favorite events of the year. It really warms our hearts to know that our team kids are eager to serve others.

How it works: Each gymnast brings in “change.” This can be money found in couch cushions, in the car, part of their allowance-whatever they want. We will collect this money from Monday, October 22nd through Saturday, November 17th. On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, following our morning practice, we will go in groups to shop for children from the local Angel Tree and other organizations. This is a great team bonding experience for the girls.

The fun part: The winning TEAM chooses a pizza or ice cream party! The top earner per level will choose a coach to PIE IN THE FACE at the team Christmas Party!

Our Goal: Last year, our team raised over $2,700.00! We were able to sponsor more than 15 children from our community through several programs. We would like to match or exceed that goal this year! Though this seems like a large amount, when divided between over so many team athletes, it is absolutely a goal that we can reach!

Thank you for your continued support of our program! We appreciate the opportunity you give us to teach our athletes about so much more than gymnastics!
